Mayor Lee Brand & Council President Esmeralda Soria Honor Centro La Familia Day

June 17th, 2018, Fresno, CA – As a result of its recent Nonprofit of the Year nomination by CA Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula, Centro La Familia Advocacy Services (CLFA) does for the community, Mayor of the City of Fresno, Lee Brand, and Council President Esmeralda Soria recognized CLFA during the City Council session on June 16th, 2018 at City Hall.  Executive Director Margarita Rocha, Board Chair Bob Solis and Victim Services Department Manager, Mario Gonzalez, with a Proclamation declaring Centro La Familia Day in Fresno. 

 

For more than 45 years, Centro La Familia Advocacy Services (CLFA) has worked with low-income families throughout Fresno County to empower them to become self-sufficient.  CLFA’s services include victim advocacy, human trafficking case management services, health insurance enrollment, and immigration services in English, Spanish, and Hmong throughout rural and urban areas of Fresno County. Every year, CLFA serves more than 10,000 clients and reaches more than 100,000 community members through outreach and educational programs, presentations, workshops, and special and multi-media events. 

Ms. Rocha declared that she was humbled and honored to receive this recognition and thanked the staff and board for the hard work they do for the community. The proclamation also mentioned CLFA’s work in strengthening the community through its mission of “Empowering people to access life-sustaining services” and recognized the economic impact that nonprofits have in our economy. Additionally, Council Member Luis Chavez praised the legacy and work of Margarita Rocha in the community.
